The museum is situated on the site of the legendary musician’s home, which he purchased in 1975. This house, featuring 19th-century architecture, was Marley’s home until his transition in 1981. It was converted into a museum six years later by his wife, Mrs Rita Marley. The main museum displays Marley’s personal treasures. The property also features a well-equipped 80-seat theatre, a photographic gallery, a record shop and a gift shop filled with a wide array of Bob Marley memorabilia. Relax and enjoy a sumptuous meal from the One Love Café after you’ve completed your tour which offers a peek into every aspect of Bob Marley’s life.

Tuff Gong International was founded by Jamaican Superstar Bob Marley in 1965. Bob was affectionately call “The Gong”, and Tuff you had to be to survive in the music business in Jamaica. Tuff Gong was originally based on Orange Street before moving to 56 Hope Road, which is now the home of the Bob Marley Museum, The Bob Marley Theatre, The Queen of Sheba Restaurant and Things from Africa Boutique. The company subsequently moved to 220 Marcus Garvey Drive, and includes a recording studio, mastering room, stamper room, pressing plant, cassette plant, wholesale record shop, booking agency, as well as offices for Rita Marley Music and Ghetto Youths International.

The famous Tuff Gong International studio is one of the largest Caribbean studios. Artists, musicians, producers and tourists travel from all over the world to see and use it. The studio is said to have a vibe conducive to creativity, and this may be because the mixing board in the studio is the same one used by Bob on all of his records. Additionally the mastering room gave birth to such songs as “No Woman, Nuh Cry”, “Trenchtown Rock”, “Stir It Up”, “Concrete Jungle”, “Redemption Song”, “Buffalo Soldier” and “Could You Be Love”, just to name a few. Since its inception, Bob Marley and Tuff Gong International have sold millions of records, and continue to do so.

The Marley Family continues to provide philanthropic support through the Bob Marley Foundation in order to continue and honour the memory of the Honourable Robert Nesta Marley, OM and to perpetuate the spiritual, cultural, social and musical ideals and goals which guided and inspired him during his lifetime. Depicted in his music Bob Marley had a concern for people of all races, age and religion who were at-risk and vulnerable hence the family intent and motivation is to fulfill the vision of the Honorable Robert Nesta Marley OM hence developed the Foundation’s vision upon these guiding principles aim at relieving poverty, while reaching those in need through love and brotherhood.

The Founder of the Rita Marley Foundation is Mrs Rita Marley OD. She now resides in Ghana and was several years ago enstooled as Nana Afua Adobea 1(Queen of Development) in the South-eastern Akwapim Region of Ghana. The Rita Marley Foundation is supported by funds from donors and collaborators. Our Foundation will work towards the alleviation of poverty for peoples of developing and less developed countries. Its long term function will be to eradicate poverty and hunger in specific selected communities using as its tools: empowerment of those communities through the creation of economic investments, improvement of educational opportunities and the development of knowledge and proper practice in nutrition and health care. As an NGO, the Rita Marley Foundation will administer and manage identified projects deserving assistance.
